In a poignant gesture of solidarity, Pakistan’s T20I captain, Salman Ali Agha, and star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi announced they will donate their entire winnings and earnings from the recently concluded tri-series to the country’s ongoing flood relief efforts.
Their announcement came after Pakistan celebrated a resounding victory in the final against Afghanistan.
Salman Ali Agha, who led the team to triumph, dedicated the series win to the people of Pakistan grappling with devastating floods. “What matters is how we respond as a team,” Agha said. “Our country is going through a difficult time. Shaheen Afridi and I will donate our tri-nation series earnings to all affected by the floods back home.
He also urged other prominent figures to join the cause. “I’d encourage our stars to donate toward rebuilding for those whose lives have been destroyed,” Agha added, highlighting the collective responsibility to help.
Shaheen Afridi echoed his captain’s sentiments. “This one is for the people of Pakistan. Salman Ali Agha and I are donating all our earnings to the flood victims back home,” he wrote on social media.
The floods, caused by torrential monsoon rains, have inundated vast areas of the country. Millions have been affected, with widespread destruction of infrastructure and loss of life also becoming a common sight.
The humanitarian crisis has prompted a nationwide response, with the sporting community also stepping up. Peshawar Zalmi recently organized a charity match to raise funds for affected communities, and Salman and Shaheen’s decision to donate their tri-series winnings is another example of sport driving real-world change.
